College of Nanoscale Science will start undergraduate program - Sacramento Business Journal:

State University of New York Chancellofr Nancy Zimpher made the announcement Friday atthe college’ws Fuller Road campus. Currently, the college offers only master’s and doctoral programs. Some undergraduate courses will be offered inthe fall, but the firsgt full class of about 50 students will startt in the spring, said Robert Geer, vice presidentf of academic affairs at the school. The college plands to grow the freshman class to 300 to 500 in the next four or five saidAlain Kaloyeros, the college’s vice president and CEO. The baccalaureatew program will be funded througha $10 millionj endowment, a donation that includes an undisclosed amount from G.
Thomaa Selfridge, who owns The endowment is expected to covefrtuition costs, Kaloyeros said. Selfridge also made an endowmenf when the campus openedin 2001. The stated approved the four-year program two weeks ago. Albany Nanotech will not add to its staff of 55 Geer said, but that number is expectede to grow to 75 over the next five years. Friday’z announcement was another milestone for the AlbanyNanoTech campus, where the college is located. Earlie this week, officials there announced that private, federaol and state investments at the campuz hadtopped $5 billion. Employment has also exceededc the 2,500-mark.
That’s the number of researchers, engineers, students and faculty that now work atthe 800,000-square-foott complex. With an average salary of those numbers translate to an annuapl payrollof $202 million. Albany NanoTech opened its fourtn building, NanoFab 300 this past spring. Zimpher became chancelloer June 1. She is touring SUNY campusese over the nextfew months.
