Great Lakes Calcium to pay $280,000 fine in settlement - Business First of Louisville:

The settlement resolves charges that Great Lakes Calciumn violated state air pollution laws and air permit requirements at its facilityt on the west shorelinre of the Fox River near the Bay ofGreenm Bay, the Wisconsin Department of Justice said The alleged violations occurred from 2005 to February 2008. The Grear Lakes Calcium facility emits particulate matter in the form of calciuj carbonate dust created from the processiny and storageof limestone, and from several combustiojn processes.
The complaint charges that Greag Lakes Calcium operated in violation of stater law and its permit by installintg five processes withouta permit, exceedingg certain permit limits, failing to maintain recordsx and to report deviations, failingb to calibrate instruments, and failingb to meet stack height requirements. Under the Great Lakes Calcium willpay $180,000 in forfeitures and penaltyy assessments and costs. In addition, the company will pay $100,0009 to install and operate broken bag detectors to provide protectiohn against excessive emissions beyond that required bystate law.
