The hospital, the designateds Regional Trauma and Disaster Preparednessa Center for WesternNew York, plans to add 12 exam two operating rooms and new supporf areas for emergency and surgical services in its emergency Currently, the hospital has 29 exam roomd and 10 operating rooms. The hospital has not made upgradesa to its ER since a redesign of the spacsin 1997. Final approval is still required by the StateHealtnh Department. The expansion, which was first announced in will not interrupt services in the existing space while work is Jody Lomeo, who was namedx CEO in early January, said in a preparede release the project is a positive step toward improving care at the facility.
“This is the firsr physical sign of the progress and improvements that we will see at ECMC in the next months and years as we work with Great Lakes Health to improve our collectiver facilities to servepatients better,” he said. The increased capacityy will allow the hospital to improve care in thetraums center, as well as give surgeons the abilit y to perform more procedures in orthopedics, generao surgery and vascular surgery. ECMC recently hired additionaol surgeons to respond to the increase insurgical volume.
The hospita said the additional operating rooms will accommodate projected growth in surgeriesas well, particularly helpful for neurosurgica l and spine cases which take more Increased capacity also opens up space for electivwe surgeries. ECMC includes a medicalo center with 550 inpatient 136 skilled nursinghome on- and off-campus health centers and more than 40 outpatiengt specialty care clinics. ECMC joins severaol other area hospitals in announcing emergency department expansionthis year, including ’s Mercy Hospitaol and Sisters of Charity Hospital.
